About This Freight Class Toolbox
A focused reference for United States LTL shippers and freight brokers: density math, the CCSB class ladder, and the inspection mechanics that decide what you actually pay.
What this site does
Every calculator on this site mirrors the arithmetic a carrier terminal applies: cubic feet from extreme dimensions, PCF from gross weight, and the 18-tier density ladder from Class 50 to Class 500. Results include the full step-by-step breakdown so the number on your bill of lading can be checked and defended line by line.
Data sources and methodology
- The class ladder follows the density-based scale published under the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system maintained by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA).
- Dimension rules follow NMFC Item 110 (extreme dimensions) and weight declaration practice follows NMFC Item 170 (bumping rule).
- Commodity examples describe the tier in general industry terms; the binding class for a specific product is always the NMFC item your carrier assigns.
How calculations run
All computations execute locally in your browser. Dimensions and weights you enter are never uploaded, logged or shared. The same 18-tier dataset powers the server-side regression suite and the client-side calculators, so the figure you see is the figure the fixture tests verified.
